D‐ (‐) ‐3‐ホスホグリセリン酸二ナトリウム塩 (PGA) は,水溶液中のグリセリン酸のリン酸化を評価するために使用されている解糖中間体である。また、解糖に関連するグルタチオンおよびNAD依存性のヒ酸塩還元の特徴を明らかにするためにも用いられている。さらに、アミノ酸、ヌクレオチド、脂肪酸を含む多くの重要な分子の合成に関与している。細胞シグナル伝達と遺伝子発現の調節にも関与する。
