この化合物は、3, 3', 4, 4'位に4個の重水素原子を含む。GC-またはLC-質量分析法によるビマトプロスト（遊離酸）の定量用内部標準物質として使用することを意図しています。ビマトプロスト（遊離酸）は、プロスタグランジンF2α（PGF2α）の代謝的に安定なアナログであり、FP受容体に対する強力なアゴニストです。ビマトプロスト（遊離酸）は、CHO細胞で発現させたラットの組換えFP受容体において、PGF2αの結合を1.1 nMのKiで阻害する2。ビマトプロスト（遊離酸）のイソプロピルエステル-d4は、PGF2αのイソプロピルエステルよりもわずかに優れた眼圧降下作用を示し、ネコの眼に刺激を与えない3。
