Ibuprofen (R)-Ibuprofen, also called R(-)-ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, is the least active enantiomer of ibuprofen, a Cox-1 and Cox-2 inhibitor. Most of the activity resides in (S)-ibuprofen (sc-200612). It has been observed that reversal of (R)-ibuprofen to the S(+) antipode occurs in rat liver, but not in the serous or mucosal part of the small intestine. The presence of (R)-Ibuprofen can be detected in urine by mass chromatography. A liquid chromatographic assay was used to study the pharmacokinetics of the (S)- and (R)-Ibuprofen forms in plasma.
