BAI-2 Antibody (6A12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG3 kappa light chain antibody that detects BAI-2 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-BAI-2 antibody (6A12) is available as the non-conjugated format. BAI-2, a member of the brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor family, plays a crucial role in regulating angiogenesis, particularly in the brain, where BAI-2 is expressed in neurons of the cerebral cortex. BAI-2′s primary function is to inhibit the formation of new blood vessels, which is vital for maintaining the delicate balance of vascularization in the central nervous system. BAI-2 expression notably increases during brain development, suggesting BAI-2′s importance in neurodevelopmental processes. Additionally, BAI-2 activity has been linked to the suppression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in ischemic conditions, where BAI-2 expression decreases significantly after hypoxia. Understanding the mechanisms by which BAI-2 exerts anti-angiogenic effects could pave the way for novel therapeutic strategies in treating conditions characterized by abnormal blood vessel growth, such as certain cancers and neurodegenerative diseases.
