    SEE ALSO...

Polyoma virus VP1 Antibody (8E8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects the major capsid protein VP1 of human Polyomavirus by western blotting (WB). Anti-Polyoma virus VP1 antibody (8E8) is available in a non-conjugated form, specifically designed for researchers studying the JC virus, which transforms fetal brain cells and human amnion cells in vitro, potentially leading to tumor development in various species. VP1 protein constitutes approximately 75% of the total capsid shell protein, playing a crucial role in virus structure and function by forming the outer layer of the viral capsid, providing protection to the viral genome and facilitating virus entry into host cells. VP1 interaction with cellular proteins, such as retinoblastoma protein and p53, contributes to tumor-inducing properties of the JC virus, particularly in immunocompromised individuals, where infection can lead to severe conditions like progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). Understanding VP1 structure and function is essential for developing therapeutic strategies and diagnostic tools for diseases associated with the JC virus.
