Acefylline is a white to off-white crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water, ethanol, chloroform, and acetone. When reacted with sodium salt solutions under stable pressure at ambient temperature, it yields an intense blue fluorescence detected electrochemically. It is an xanthine derivative, an adenosine receptor antagonist. Acefylline is also a peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD) activator.
