Meglumine is a derivative of sugar alcohol, mannitol. It has been used as an antiprotozoal compound for leischmaniasis. It is a excipient used as a stabilizer, solubilizer, and dispersant in a variety of formulations. It acts as a surfactant and a chelating agent. Meglumine is also used as a contrast agent in X-ray imaging and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). It may act to have an effect on the metabolism of glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides. In vitro studies have been conducted using Meglumine to evaluate the solubility, stability, and bioavailability of different compounds.
