Metallothionein 1F Inhibitors

Metallothionein 1F inhibitors are chemicals that decrease the functional activity of Metallothionein 1F, a protein responsible for metal ion homeostasis and detoxification of heavy metals. This class of inhibitors includes, Zinc Sulfate, which can overstimulate the synthesis of Metallothionein 1F. This overproduction leads to the sequestration of Metallothionein 1F, reducing its availability for its primary functions in the cell.

On the other hand,, Nickel(II) Sulfate, Chromium(III) Chloride and Cobalt(II) Chloride inhibit the activity of Metallothionein 1F by direct binding. These compounds bind to Metallothionein 1F due to the protein's high affinity for heavy metals and other metal ions. The binding of these compounds to Metallothionein 1F reduces its availability for its cellular functions, effectively inhibiting the protein's activity.
