The class of Alphavirus Inhibitors includes compounds that target various stages of the viral life cycle, including entry, replication, and protein processing. These inhibitors are not specific to a single protein but rather aim to disrupt essential processes in the virus's replication cycle or the host's cellular mechanisms exploited by the virus.

Compounds like Ribavirin, Sofosbuvir, Remdesivir, Favipiravir, and Galidesivir inhibit viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, a crucial enzyme for viral replication. By targeting this enzyme, these inhibitors effectively reduce the ability of the virus to replicate its genetic material. Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine, known for their ability to alter endosomal pH, can disrupt the process of virus-cell fusion, an essential step for the virus to enter and infect host cells. Other compounds such as Interferon-α stimulate the host's immune response, providing a broad-spectrum antiviral effect that includes potential activity against alphaviruses.
