Trypsin Inhibitor, soybean (STI) is a protein which reduces trypsin (a proteolytic enzyme) as well as plasma kallikrein and plasmin. activity. Trypsin Inhibitor, soybean has demonstrated inhibition of human neutrophil elastase at an IC50=0.3nM. At this concentration Trypsin Inhibitor, soybean showed neither cytotoxic nor haemolytic effects on populations of human blood cells. In fibrin matrix, and without toxic effects, Trypsin Inhibitor, soybean had strong inhibitory effect on human umbilical vein endothelial cells migration and tubulogenesis. It has been observed that repeated administration of Trypsin Inhibitor, soybean to rats, especially suckling and young rats, causes the pancreas to enlarge. Trypsin Inhibitor, soybean is also known as SBTI, STI, and Trypsin inhibitor from Glycine max.
