(+)-Biotin 4-Amidobenzoic Acid, Sodium Salt is a fluorogenic substrate for the determination of Biotinidase activity. It is hydrolyzed by biotinidase, which cleaves biotin amide to give biotin in vivo. Biotin, an essential coenzyme for certain carboxylases, is used to modify histones and regulate gene transcription. (+)-Biotin 4-Amidobenzoic Acid, Sodium Salt releases 4-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) which is able to be quantified by either fluorescent or colorimetric methods. This technique is used in biotinidase activity assays to screen newborns for biotinidase deficiency.
