Hydroxyurea is a demonstrated antineoplastic agent. It is believed Hydroxyurea can block DNA replication by inhibiting ribonucleotide reductase via destruction of the free radical at the enzymes active site. Hydroxyurea induces apoptosis of in vitro myelogenous leukemia lymphocytes, and the phosphorylation of FADD and p53. Cell cycle arrest is induced by Hydroxyurea in the G1/S phase.
