Caspase inhibitor X is a non-peptide reversible and competitive inhibitor of caspase-3, caspase-7 and caspase-8 (Ki = 4.3 µM, 6.2 µM and 2.7 µM, respectively). The benzodioxane moiety is shown to fit in the 'aspartate hole' of the caspase. Caspase inhibitor X has been shown to potentially disrupt caspase-8-assisted cleavage of BID. This compound weakly affects the metalloprotease activity of anthrax lethal factor (~ 20 µM).
