Validamycin A is an antibiotic fungicide that inhibits trehalase activity in plants, insects, and fungi and causes the accumulation of trehalose in transgenic plants. Validamycin A has also demonstrated antiviral activity against fungal plant pathogens, including Pellicularia sasakii and Rhizoctonia solani, but does not appear to be fungicidal in these cases.
