Thiolutin is an RNA polymerase inhibitor, and a sulfur-based microbial antibiotic generated by Streptomyces sp. The compound has been shown to inhibit transcription in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and mRNA degradation. Thiolutin inhibits the adhesion of endothelial cells, including adhesion of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) to vitronectin, and restricts tumor cell-induced angiogenesis. Studies have reported that Thiolutin is an effective inducer of HSP 27 (heat shock protein 27; Hsp27) phosphorylation. Research shows that in the presence of Thiolutin, the interaction between Hsp27 and nestin is disrupted, which results in the breakdown of nestin filaments.
