Theobromine is a weak PDE (phosphodiesterase) inhibitor and Adenosine A Receptor (adenosine receptor) blocker as well as a diuretic and smooth-muscle relaxant.

Soluble in 0.5M sodium hydroxide (50 mg/ml), ethanol (<1 mg/ml at 25° C), water (<1 mg/ml at 25° C), DMSO (<1 mg/ml at 25° C), and methanol (hot).
