TEMED (N,N,N′,N′-Tetramethylethylenediamine) is a free radical stabilizer used as a catalyst with APS (Ammonium persulfate, sc-202946) to promote polymerization of Acrylamide/bis-Acrylamide gels. Also employed as a ligand for metal ions as it forms stable complexes with many metal halides, e.g. zinc chloride and copper(I) iodide, giving complexes that are soluble in organic solvents. In such complexes, TEMED serves as a bidentate ligand. Ready-to-use acrylamide solutions are available for your convenience: Acrylamide Solution, 40% (sc-3721) and N,N′-Methylenebis-Acrylamide, 2% (sc-3719).
