Saponin is a secondary metabolite that facilitates the penetration of proteins through the cell membrane. Studies indicate that saponins are amphipathic glycosides, which can act as hemolytic agents. Research indicates that Saponin displays antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activities, which may be due to its nonglycosidic moiety, sapogenin. Saponin can also be used in environmental research to recover chromium and other metals from sludge samples. Additional studies indicate that Saponin is useful in immunoassays since it can stimulate the Th1 immune response and the production of cytotoxic T-lymphocytes in response to exogenous antigens.

Hello what is the purity of this product meaning? I want to use for analysis of yield of saponin content in plants. Is that okay?

Asked by: Cara
Thank you for your question. The purity of Saponin (CAS 8047-15-2) is based on saponin content on a dry basis. The native source is Quillaja bark. Each lot of this chemical comes with a lot-specific Certificate Of Analysis which typically describes the percent purity as well as the method used to determine the purity. You may request a lot-specific Certificate Of Analysis on our website. Alternatively, please contact our Technical Service Department to inquire about the purity of our most recent lot. We do not have any references regarding the use of saponin for analysis of yield in plants. We would recommend you consult the primary literature.

What is the molecular weight?

Asked by: Io5ay
Thank you for your question. This has no specified molecular weight for this compound because the number of saccharide chains attached to the sapogenin/aglycone core can vary as can the length of each chain. Please contact Technical Service if you have further questions concerning this product.
