Phosphate buffered saline (PBS) with azide may be used when azide is required as a preservative for biological solutions. PBS (Phosphate buffered saline) is a buffer solution commonly used in biological research. It is a water-based salt solution containing sodium chloride, sodium phosphate, potassium chloride and potassium phosphate. Sodium azide (NaN3) is added to prevent microbial contamination. PBS with azide is also useful as a storage buffer.
Ready to use PBS with Azide buffer is a solution with a phosphate buffer concentration of 0.01M, 0.027M potassium chloride, 0.137M sodium chloride, and 1.76 mM potassium phosphate with 0.02% sodium azide. pH 7.4 ±0.2 (25°C).

Usage :
• When staining or treating live cells with antibodies, or if using antibodies for in vivo studies, solutions containing sodium azide should not be used; it is toxic to most organisms and blocks the cytochrome electron transport system.

• This product is not recommended for use with any conjugation that involves an amine group, and should be removed before proceeding with the conjugation.

• The molecular weight of sodium azide is 65 daltons, making it is possible to remove sodium azide from solutions by dialysis or gel filtration.

• Sodium azide may react with lead or copper plumbing to form highly explosive metal azides. Unused sodium azide solution can be discarded according to city, county, state, province or country's regulations.
