Micafungin is a semi-synthetic cyclic lipopeptide belonging to the echinocandin class. Unlike other marketed semi-synthetic derivatives in this class, micafungin is not derived from echinocandin but rather from FR901379, which contains a phenolic sulphate to enhance aqueous solubility, a serious limitation in the class. Micafungin's antifungal properties stem from its ability to inhibit the synthesis of β-(1,3)-D-glucan, an essential component of the cell wall in susceptible fungi.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gil Gil-Alonso, S. et al. (PubMed 26168269) studied the post-anti-fungal effects (PAFE) of Micafungin (Mycamine), an effective anti-fungal agent, against several non-C. albicans species. They found that Micafungin showed longer PAFE for C. albicans compared to other non-C. albicans species. -SCBT Publication Review
