Methyl nonanoate is a useful biochemical for proteomics research. It is also used in the synthesis of other chemicals, as a flavoring and fragrance ingredient, and as an insect repellent. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. Methyl nonanoate was found to be effective in inhibiting the growth of cancer cells and cells found in the gastrointestinal tract in vitro.
