Kanamycin A sulfate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that is active against gram positive and negative cocci and bacteria. Kanamycin A sulfate binds to the 70S ribosomal subunit, inhibits translocation and elicits miscoding. Interaction with ribosomes may be prevented by aminoglycoside modifying enzymes.
