Chrysamine G, a lipophilic derivative and carboxylic acid analog of Congo red (sc-359843), has been shown to bind to the β-amyloid protein in vitro. Binding to the β-amyloid protein has been reported to inhibit its neurodegenerative activity. Studies suggest that Chrysamine G inhibits β-amyloid due to its antioxidant acitvity.
