Aldosterone is a hormone analog reported to be involved in sodium balance regulation. This compound has been noted to specifically activate mineralocorticoid receptor (MR), resulting in induction of O2- production via upregulation of Nox-2, Nox-4, and Cox-2. The oxidative and inflammatory results of aldosterone have been shown to affect glucose metabolism.
