3-Aminobenzamide has demonstrated inhibition of PARP (poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase), which protects cells from UV-B-induced apoptosis via influence on the cytoskeleton. Shown to inhibit endogenous poly-ADP-ribosyltransferases often present in membrane preparations with minimal effect on bacterial toxin-mediated ADP-ribosylation. Maintains cellular concentrations of NAD and ATP, and has been shown to inhibit nitric oxide-induced apoptosis but not differentiation in HL-60 cells. Believed to protect cells from oxygen radical and nitric oxide toxicity; thereby inhibiting stress-induced apoptosis.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3 3-Aminobenzamide (CAS 3544-24-9), an inhibitor of PARP, was tested by Chiang et. al. to prevent loss of inner retinal parts after ischemia-reperfusion insult in rats.
