PPHP, 5-phenyl-4-pentenyl-1-hydroperoxide, is a small molecule peroxide employed as a substrate probe for peroxidase enzymes. Conversion of PPHP to 5-phenyl-4-pentenyl alcohol by peroxidase enzymes can be traced with HPLC to assay peroxidase activity. This approach has been exploited to assay the activity of COX-1 and COX-2, and can be used to identify and characterize other peroxide-reducing enzymes.
