OLIG2 Antibody (1G11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects OLIG2 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). OLIG2 (1G11) antibody is available as the non-conjugated form. OLIG2, a member of the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor family, plays a crucial role in the development of oligodendrocytes, which are essential for the formation of myelin sheaths that insulate nerve fibers in the central nervous system. This myelination is vital for proper neuronal function and signal transmission, and disruptions in OLIG2 expression can lead to various neurological disorders. OLIG2 is predominantly expressed in the embryonic brain and is involved in regulating oligodendrogenesis, making OLIG2 a key player in the development of the nervous system. Additionally, OLIG2 interacts with the Nkx-2.2 homeodomain protein, which is critical for ventral neuronal patterning during embryonic development. OLIG2 expression is significantly elevated in oligodendrogliomas, a type of brain tumor, while remaining nearly absent in astrocytomas, highlighting OLIG2′s potential as a molecular marker for glial brain tumors. Given OLIG2′s importance in both normal development and disease, anti-OLIG2 antibody (1G11) serves as a valuable tool for researchers studying oligodendrocyte biology and related pathologies.
