N-SMase Spiroepoxide Inhibitor is a potent and selective irreversible inhibitor of neutral sphingomyelinase (N-SMase). It has been suggested N-SMase Spiroepoxide Inhibitor binds to the active site of N-SMase, indicating that it can be used study the biological role and mechanism N-SMase. Additionally, use of N-SMase Spiroepoxide Inhibitor in HUVEC cells has displayed substantial suppression of IL-1β-induced TF protein formation confirming the involvement of nSMase in contributing to cellular increases of ceramide. N-SMase Spiroepoxide Inhibitor has also been used to inhibit exosome release during the isolation process of exosomes derived from HCV-infected hepatocytes.
