MNS is a selective inhibitor of c-Src and Syk tyrosine kinases also known as 3,4-methylenedioxy-β-nitrostyrene. MNS acts as a cell-permeable cytotoxic β-nitrostyrene derivative which suppresses human platelet aggregation. In addition, platelets previously aggregated by ADP, U46619, arachidonic acid, collagen, thrombin, ionophore A23187, and PDBu can be disaggregated by MNS. Studies suggest the mechanism responsible for this inhibition is observed via prevention of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa activation.
