Mitomycin C is part of a family of azidine natural products. It is a DNA crosslinking and damaging agent, making it a useful antibiotic and antitumor compound. When crosslinking, Mitomycin C displays absolute specificity and high efficiency for the CpG sequence. Mammalian Cells treated with Mitomycin C (0.4 mg/mL for 5 min) can undergo apoptosis through upregulation of Bad, Fas, FasL and phosphorylated p53 along with activation of caspase-3, caspase-8, and caspase-9 activating both the intrinsic and extrinsic pathway for apoptosis.

How long it can be stored at -80 degrees in solution? Is DMSO the best solvent?

The product is warranted for up to one year starting from the date of shipping. We have not evaluated long-term storage at -80°C for this product and we do not recommend storage at this temperature. Mitomycin C (CAS 50-07-7) is soluble in water (0.5 mg/ml), 100% ethanol (warm) (1 mg/ml), DMSO (15 mg/ml), and methanol.

What is the storage temperature after the compound is solubilized?

Thank you for your question. After re-suspending this compound in solution, you can store it at -20 degrees Celsius for up to a month without degradation. Tightly seal the cap and wrap it in parafilm. Us it within a month of solubilizing it. Please contact Technical Service if you have further questions concerning this product.

I was working on a project to convert Mouse embryonic stem cells to Neurons and Glia and I needed Mitomycin C to inactivate the feeder cells for ES cell cultivation. The use of this product was smooth and it was easy to reconstitute it in Ethanol. In the past, I have used this same product from a different company and had a lot of issues to reconstitute it in Ethanol. The Santa Cruz product was fantastic. I would recommend this product to all my lab members for their future experiments.
