Mitomycin C (4% in NaCl) is a reagent used to generate mitotically inactive feeder cells in culture. Mitomycin C (4% in NaCl) is a DNA crosslinking agent which inhibits DNA synthesis and causes apoptosis via a p53-dependent pathway. This compound is activated by sodium dithionite which is thought to cause bifunctional alkylation of DNA. In addition, when added to Micrococcus luteus DNA Mitomycin C (4% in NaCl) forms adducts between itself and deoxyguanosine residues.
