Lapatinib is an antineoplastic agent used in breast cancer research research. It appears to be a tyrosine kinase inhibitor which interrupts the Neu/ ErbB2 and EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) pathways, thus inhibiting ErbB-overexpressing tumors. Lapatinib binds to the ATP-binding pocket of the protein kinase domains on EGFR/ErbB, preventing self-phosphorylation in solid tumor cells. Lapatinib is an inhibitor of EGFR and Neu/ ErbB2.
