SEE ALSO...

Fatty Acid Synthase Antibody (A-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Fatty Acid Synthase (FAS) in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-FAS antibody (A-5) is available in both conjugated and non-conjugated forms, providing flexibility for various experimental needs. FAS plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism, specifically in the biosynthesis of fatty acids, which are essential for cellular structure and function. FAS catalyzes the conversion of acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA into long-chain saturated fatty acids, such as palmitate, utilizing NADPH as a cofactor. This process is vital for energy storage and membrane formation, and is particularly important in rapidly dividing cells, such as those found in tumors, where fatty acid synthesis is often upregulated to support cell growth and survival. The human FAS gene encodes a 2,504 amino acid protein that functions as a homodimer, and FAS mRNA is variably expressed, with high levels found in tissues such as the brain, lung, and liver. Understanding FAS expression and regulation is critical, as dysregulation is associated with various metabolic disorders and cancers, making FAS a significant target for therapeutic intervention.
