Doxycycline hyclate, also called doxycycline is an antimicrobial tetracycline that acts as an inhibitor of a wide range of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). This product has been observed to significantly decrease the levels and activity of metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in corneal erosion studies. Rheumatoid arthriitis studies indicate that doxycycline can block the degradation of type II collagen, and not type I collagen, as well as down regulate the expression levels and activity of MMP-8. Reports suggest that doxycycline blocks collagen activity and in smooth muscle studies increases smooth muscle cell adhesion, and changes the reorganization of fibrillar collagen matrices and cell migration. Additionally, doxycycline has been observed to alter the expression of apicoplast genes in plasmodium falciparum, and inhibit tissue formation. Doxycycline hyclate is an inhibitor of MMP-1 and MMP-8.

I am working with dox in DMEM and wanted to know what the half-life of dox is at 37c under physiological conditions?
Asked by: Danielvargas
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, we have not tested the half-life of the material at 37 C. However, we are able to provide the following information:
After this product was stored at a temperature of 40 (+/-) 2° C with humidity at 75 (+/-) 5%, the product showed a purity of 97.6% or greater after 6 months. After the product was stored at a temperature 25 (+/-) 2°C with humidity at 60 (+/-) 5%, the product showed a purity of 89.29% or greater after 48 months.
I have also included the link to the PubChem page which has half-life information:

ForloniForloni, G. et al. (PubMed 12149459) injected Syrian hamsters intracerebrally with scrapie (a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy) infected brain homogenate and 1mM doxycycline hyclate. The hamsters treated with the doxycycline hyclate showed a significant delay in appearance of symptoms and increased survival time. -SCBT Publication Review
