BW B70C is a selective arachidonic acid 5-LO (5-lipoxygenase) inhibitor. Guinea-pig lung studies report that BW B70C blocks leukotriene C4 synthesis by alveolar macrophages, decreases the migration for leukocyte to the airway lumen, and weakens glycoconjugate secretion and airway closure. BW B70C has been reported to hyper-activate monocytes, decrease the formation of oligonucleosomal and high molecular weight DNA fragments. Additional studies demonstrate that BW B70C decreases 12-HETE formation in MAC26 cells.
