Ac-VAD-pNA is a chromogenic paranitroanilide substrate of caspase-1. It is also cleaved by caspase-3, caspase-4, and caspase-7. Similar to amino acids 114-116 (VHD) of the IL-1B precursor, it is an anendogenous substrate of caspase-1. The release of pNA is monitored at 405 nm (ε=9.160M-1cm-1).
