4-Phenyl-3-furoxancarbonitrile is able to activate GCS (soluble guanylate cyclase) by releasing nitric oxide with the aid of thiol cofactors. 4-Phenyl-3-furoxancarbonitrile has also been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation.
