    S-antigen Antibody (PFS-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects the S-antigen protein of Plasmodium falciparum origin by western blotting (WB). Anti-S-antigen antibody (PFS-1) is available as the non-conjugated format. Plasmodium falciparum, the protozoan parasite responsible for malaria, exhibits significant antigenic diversity, which poses a challenge in the development of effective vaccines. S-antigen is a crucial protein located in the parasitophorous vacuole of the mature asexual intraerythrocytic stage of the parasite, playing a vital role in survival and immune evasion. S-antigen gene is characterized by multiple alleles originating from the same chromosomal site, with each allele featuring a central region of tandemly arranged, nearly identical peptides that are specific to that allele. This structural diversity allows for the identification of distinct serotypes based on the repeat region, while the flanking non-repetitive sequences, which vary among four different forms, help define individual S-antigen families. Notably, the variation is most pronounced in the C-terminal-flanking region, underscoring the importance of understanding these structural differences for vaccine development and diagnostic purposes.
