Lynestrenol is a synthetic progestogen that functions by binding to progesterone receptors in target tissues. This binding results in the modulation of gene transcription and subsequent changes in the endometrium, inhibiting ovulation and altering cervical mucus to prevent sperm penetration. Lynestrenol suppresses the secretion of gonadotropins, which are involved in the regulation of the menstrual cycle. At the molecular level, Lynestrenol′s mechanism of action involves the inhibition of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) release from the pituitary gland, ultimately leading to the prevention of follicular maturation and ovulation.
