Laulimalide is a novel molecular probe microtubule stabilizer that functions at a binding site distinct from Taxol. It is a potent inhibitor of cellular proliferation in various cancer cell lines (IC50: 3-30 nM). The compound causes cells to arrest in prometaphase of the cell cycle, prevents formation of the bipolar spindle and increases kinetochore tension in preformed spindles.
