Santa Cruz Biotechnology now offers a broad range of Photoreactive Crosslinkers. Photoreactive Crosslinkers may be activated by UV light to indiscriminately bind nearly any nearby functionality. Typically one end of a photoreactive crosslinker is amine or sulfhydryl reactive as to bind a known target, and the other end is a photoreactive group, which upon activation with UV light forms a highly reactive intermediate. There are many different photoreactive groups that have found use in crosslinking applications. Benzophenone, aryl azides, and diazirine are all commonly employed. Aryl azides may be modified with a nitro group in order to increase the wavelenght of UV absorption, flouro groups to promote nitrene formation rather than a ring expansion upon irradiation, and hydroxyl groups to allow the aromatic substitution of iodine-125 for radiolabeling purposes. Diazirine based crosslinkers are particularly desirable for their increased photostability while still easily and efficiently activated by long-wave UV light (330-370 nm).
