SDS (20% Solution) (CAS 151-21-3)

Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is an anionic detergent used to solubilize and denature proteins in protein extraction and SDS-PAGE gel electrophoresis; also used in a variety of hybridization and molecular biology techniques. SDS (20% Solution) is effective in both ionic and anionic conditions. SDS unravels proteins by binding to peptide chains and imparting a negative charge on the protein; this causes the protein to unfold eliminating shape as a factor for gel separation.
