ZNF499 Background Information The BTB (Broad-Complex, Tramtrack and Bric a brac) domain, also known as the POZ (POxvirus and Zinc finger) domain, is an N-terminal homodimerization domain that contains multiple copies of kelch repeats and/or C2H2-type zinc fingers. Proteins that contain BTB domains are thought to be involved in transcriptional regulation via control of chromatin structure and function. ZNF499 (zinc finger protein 499), also known as ZBTB45 (zinc finger and BTB domain containing 45), is a 511 amino acid nuclear protein that contains one BTB domain and four C2H2-type zinc fingers and is thought to be involved in transcriptional regulation events. The gene encoding ZNF499 maps to human chromosome 19, which consists of over 63 million bases, houses approximately 1,400 genes and is recognized for having the greatest gene density of the human chromosomes. It is the genetic home for a number of immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily members, including the killer cell and leukocyte Ig-like receptors, a number of ICAMs, the CEACAM and PSG family and Fc receptors (FcRs). |
