Hyaluronidase is an enzyme widely present in nature. In addition to humans, it is found in the organs and bodily fluid of nematodes, leeches, snakes, scorpions, bees, spiders, wasps, hornets, caterpillars, lizards, and fish. Hyaluronidase is also present in the secretions of virus, bacteriophage, fungi and bacteria. It is used in the preparation of DMEM/F-12 media. Hyaluronidase is a component of digestion solution for the derivation of germline stem cells in certain types of cancer. It cleaves hyaluronic acid at the β-D-GalNAc-(1→4)-β-D-GlcA bond, yielding 3-(4-deoxy-β-D-gluc-4-enuronosyl)-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine tetra- and hexasaccharides.
