p-Nitroblue Tetrazolium Chloride is an NADPH-diaphorase substrate that competitively inhibits NOS (nitric oxide synthase) (IC50 = 3-4 muM). p-Nitroblue Tetrazolium Chloride is a well-known scavenger of superoxide anions and is useful as a substrate for alkaline phosphatase, often in conjunction with BCIP. It transforms from a colorless or light yellow solution to an insoluble deep blue formazan precipitate upon reduction. This characteristic makes p-Nitroblue Tetrazolium Chloride an ideal candidate for various biochemical assays, especially those aiming to detect and quantify redox reactions.
