QUICK LINKS

Tetracycline hydrochloride belongs to a family of broad-spectrum antibiotics that inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria by blocking the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the bacterial ribosome and has been used in a variety of dental studies. In Tick-Borne Encephalitis virus (TBEV) studies, Tetracycline hydrochloride increased the concentrations of sIL-6R, IL-1RA, sTNFR1 and decreased the levels of TNF-α. Studies show that Tetracycline hydrochloride can induce cold shock response and enhance expression of P450s proteins. Compounds such as Tetracycline hydrochloride that both inhibit protein synthesis and induce a cold shock response, could potentially act as protein synthesis enhancers under determined conditions. In cell biology, Tetracycline hydrochloride is used as a selective agent in cell culture systems.
