Gentamicin Sulfate, 500X Solution is an aminoglycoside antibiotic which acts by both inhibiting protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria and binding to the surface of gram-negative bacterial cells. The cell binding activity is believed to disrupt the packing of lipopolysacchardes of the outer membrane leading to hole formation and cell lysis. Gentamicin Sulfate, 500X Solution is active against many strains of gram-negative bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the gram-positive Staphylococcus aeruginosa as well as some strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Activity: >600 I.U./mg Recommended working concentration for bacteria: 100-200 µg/mL
