Sodium taurocholate (NaT) is a detergent useful for the solubilization of lipids and membrane-bound proteins. It is a natural surfactant that is found in bile, and is used in laboratory experiments to study the effects of bile acids on cells, tissues, and gene and protein expression. It has been used in a variety of research applications, including drug delivery, cell culture, and biochemistry. Sodium taurocholate has been found to have several beneficial effects, including increased cell viability and increased membrane permeability. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and anti-cancer properties. Aggregation number 4. CMC 3–11 mM. Micellar weight 2100. pKa 1.9.
