XTT sodium salt is a tetrazolium sodium salt that can be used in the XTT assay for cell viablilty and cell proliferation. The reactions involving XTT sodium salt will result in the formation of a soluble formazan dye, an advantage over the use of MTT due to MTT requiring a solubilization step. another advantage of XTT sodium salt is higher sensitivity and greater dynamic range over MTT. XTT sodium salt has displayed applicability in monitoring biologcially active products with superoxide anion participation in DNA scission. The compound has also been used to asses valvular injury for testing cryopreserved cardiac valves.
