4-Phenylazomaleinanil is an azobenzene derivative used in photochemical investigations which is described to exhibit typical azobenzene photochemistry. 4-Phenylazomaleinanil has also been used for derivatizing thiol-functionalized SiO2 opal films through reaction between the maleimide of 4-Phenylazomaleinanil with the thiols.
